Where does your stove vent go? Most people would probably look at you funny if you were to randomly ask them that. But that is a thought that sticks out in an inspector’s mind on a home inspection. Why is that?
Many times when searching through an attic, we find those vents right in the attic. This is not only a venting issue, but can also be a fire hazard. When cooking, al of those greases that start kitchen fires go right into the attic and build up over time.
Another issue that comes up (albeit not nearly as serious) is when a microwave or vent hood have a return-air system over a gas stove. Gas stove’s don’t make a great deal of CO and other combustion materials, but it is definitely better to have them vent outside.
